Oaks Day Stakes Thoughts and Selections

Happy Oaks Day! Busy weekend for us here at Thorobros, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t share some thoughts on our favorite Pick 4 of the year. Sorry no full analysis—but good luck everyone and enjoy this unique Oaks Day!

Race 8: This race has the potential to be very chalky. Like the 7 best with her perfect record at CD and the distance. Sconsin offers value and can run them down late if favorites duel on lead

A:7,5 B: 1,4

Race 9:  In Good Spirits could be lone speed and dictate the pace, leaving her full of run late. Hendy Woods has improved in every start. The 8’s last effort was the best of any in this race—if she repeats that, she wins.

A: 1,2,8 B: 3

Race 10: Tough race with several horses seemingly going the wrong way or not CD specialist. May be worth spreading deep here in horizontals. If forced to pick a winner, I’d back By My Standards but he is 0-3 at CD. Mr Freeze could return to a big effort and provides value here. Title Ready ran a big effort last out and is now second off the layoff, with a big last work. Could be ready to roll at 20-1.

A: 5,6,7 B: 1,2

Race 11: Monomy Girl is awesome and will be tough to beat here—but the numbers suggest she can be defeated. 1 and 2 are the biggest threats. We will also use some Lady Kate as lone speed possibility

A: 1,2,8

B: 7

Race 12: This edition of the Oaks is headlined by two super fillies who both deserve the hype. You have to play both in horizontals, but there are some questions with each and they both figure to test each other early, which maybe opens the door for another horse. Swiss Skydiver ran a big race at 10f a few weeks back, it’s a lot to ask a filly to travel and repeat that effort. Gamine still has some distance concerns and she could get pressed here. Speech is improving and could benefit from a pace duel. Don’t leave out Tempers Rising at 50-1 underneath in exactas and tris—-Dallas Stewart lives for running second and third with this type of horse in a big race.

A: 1,4,5 B: 2,3,7
